Buckle up, Galaxy Note fans. Samsung is reportedly planning to discontinue the entire Galaxy Note series come next year. Currently, reports suggest the company has no plans to develop another model of the Galaxy Note flagship series for 2021.
The move is reportedly pegged on the declining demand for devices in the premium segment that has been caused by the pandemic. This year’s Galaxy Note 20 series started selling at over GHS15276.
Samsung doesn’t plan to drop the S Pen altogether, however. If the reports are true, the company plans to include the S Pen in its flagship S21 series. The company’s next-gen foldable phone will also support the stylus though users will have to purchase it separately.
By axing the Note series, which has continued to become less attractive, Samsung will double down its efforts to its foldable phones, the Galaxy Z series.
Known for its large display, cutting edge specs, and the S Pen stylus, the Galaxy Note premium series was first introduced in 2011 at IFA, which at the time boasted a 5.3-inch display – considered massive at the time. The Galaxy Note was well received at the time and played a role in helping the company overtake serial competitor Apple for the first time.
We’ve seen past reports like this, so it’s not the first time. In 2019, it was reported that Samsung would merge the Galaxy S and Note series, but that hasn’t manifested yet.
If the stylus is moved to the S series and the Note series is killed, that would mean the same thing.
