ZTE Axon 20 5G, World’s First Phone with an Under-display Camera Goes Official

The smartphone industry continues to change how our handhelds work and look, and 2020 will be remembered as the year that marks the onset of in-display camera technology. As teased in the past few weeks, ZTE has officially unveiled Axon 20 5G.

Other specifications about the phone are relatively standard, but what’s intriguing is the in-display camera technology. ZTE Axon 20 5G is the world’s first smartphone with an in-display selfie camera.

Explaining its technological breakthrough, ZTE mashed together five different aspects. A special display material, dual-control chip, a unique driver circuit, a unique pixel matrix, and a self-developed shooting algorithm. The hidden camera is a 32MP snapper.

Apart from that, ZTE Axon 20 5G flaunts a 6.92-inch 90Hz OLED panel with FHD+ resolution. The bezel-less display has a 20:5:9 aspect ratio, 10-bit color depth, and 100% DCI-P3.

Qualcomm Snapdragon powers the device working together with either 6, 8, or 12GB of memory. On the back of the phone is four different camera lenses – a 64MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultrawide lens plus two other 2MP lenses for depth and macro shots.

There’s also a 4,220 mAh battery with 30W fast charging. ZTE Axon 20 5G runs on Android 10 with a custom skin on top.

It’s available starting at about $322 in the Chinese market for the 6GB/128GB model. ZTE hasn’t specified the price of the more potent 12/256GB model yet. Factoring in the specs and price, this is a good device. But, it’s still unknown whether it will ever make it out of China for now.
