A Closer Look at ZTE’s Upcoming Under-display Camera Smartphone

ZTE is launching a phone with an under-display camera next month. The phone, ZTE Axon 20 5G, if available commercially, will be the world’s first with such an iconic feature.

As we already know, ZTE Axon 20 5G will be launched in China at the beginning of next month – on Sept 1.

Scanty details are known about the phone as per now, but the company’s President for Business, Ni Fei, has come through, again, showcasing how the phone will look like(in featured photo).

The phone’s display runs smoothly with no interferences – no notch or hole punch. If you only consider the interruption-less screen, this is not a new thing. But the method in which it has been achieved is what’s new.

In the smartphone market, such displays have been achieved when using a pop-up selfie camera, for instance, like what TECNO did with the Camon 15 Premier.  However, the method ZTE is using is entirely new and will make it the first company to avail it to the mass market.

In the image below, this is how the ZTE Under display Camera phone will look like when powered on.

The bottom bezel is inevitably noticeable, but the rest is quite impressive.

In 2019, Oppo and Xiaomi also teased a phone with an under-display camera, but it seems development is still underway.
