A week ago a massive Twitter hack happened that sent the internet into shock. In a coordinated attack that saw several high-profile Twitter accounts compromised – 45 in total – the company explained that their internal admin panel was compromised with hackers.
The hack happened on Thursday 16th and the company has been sharing updates on their findings till today.
Additional details which the company provided via a Tweet, reveal that the hackers accessed DMs for up to 36 of the 130 targeted accounts. Which includes one elected official in the Netherlands, says the company.
“We believe that for up to 36 of the 130 targeted accounts, the attackers accessed the DM inbox, including 1 elected official in the Netherlands. To date, we have no indication that any other former or current elected official had their DMs accessed,” wrote the company in a blog post and Tweet.
Twitter had previously said that attackers were unable to view previous account passwords. They, however, warned that attackers “were able to view personal information including email addresses and phone numbers, which are displayed to some users of our internal support tools.”
