Towards the end of 2019, Microsoft made an absurd announcement, releasing two new hardware products – Surface Neo dual-screened PC and Surface Neo Duo.
The company was to officially release the two products later this year, but the plan has reportedly been axed due to the global coronavirus crisis.
Microsoft was to launch Surface Neo, a dual-screened PC running a Windows 10 iteration for dual-screened PCs, dubbed Windows 10X, and a Duo Android phone.
According to ZDNet, the company won’t be releasing Surface Neo nor Windows 10X as planned, citing people familiar with the matter.
The report cites Chief Product Officer Panos Panay, informing some of the internal team members that Surface Neo dual-screened windows 10X devices won’t be shipping this year plus, the company won’t allow third-party dual-screen Windows devices to ship with 10X.
The company has reportedly shifted its focus this year, to just bring Windows 10X on single-screen devices – both 2-in-1 and traditional clamshell-type devices – first. For its dual-screened Android-powered device, Surface Duo, the company is not planning to push the launch back reportedly.
