Coronavirus: New Website Allows Users to Track Pandemic in Real-Time

With thousands of disparate voices in the media all reporting simultaneously from all across the world, it can be difficult to find a singular all-informative source when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic that has so shocked societies across the Earth.

Especially now as countries call for closures and lockdowns, seeing information that is trustworthy and updated in real-time is an important tool for people to understand just what exactly is going on in the world.

Enter the COVID-19 Visualizer, this incredible new website allows users to visualise the Earth and discover the active cases, deaths, and recoveries from the much-maligned novel coronavirus.

The website allows users to pan across the world and select a country of their choice to receive information about the virus. The statistics are updated in real-time, as soon as new information comes in.

Developed by Navid Mamoon and Gabriel Rasskin of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“The goal of the project is to provide a simple, interactive way to visualise the impact of COVID-19. We wanted people to be able to see this as something that brings us all together. It’s not one country or another country; it’s one planet – and this is what our planet looks like today,” reads a statement by the developers.

The visualiser uses Worldometer as the source of information it tracks, which likewise has real-time statistics and valuable information about the virus, including pertinent subjects like ‘Symptoms’, and ‘Incubation Period.’ It also includes two graphs that show just how exponential the virus’ growth has been.

The data on cases/deaths is based on GMT (+0). It’s the latest update was at 25 March 2020, 08:03 GMT which was at today at 10:03 CAT.
