COVID-19 News: Google Scraps Newest Version of Chrome

Google has pulled the plug on its newest version of Chrome and Chrome OS – known as M82. This is because the company, along with many other organisations around the world, is navigating a new reality where its employees work from home in an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“As we adapt our future milestone schedules to the current change in schedule, we have decided to skip the M82 release to ensure we keep users safe and focus all efforts on maintaining stability,” says Jason Kersey, Director of technical program management at Google, indicating

The information goliath indicates that balancing adjusted working hours and environments is enough stress right now.

Forbes contributor, Gordon Kelly says “while this comes as a shock because it is an unprecedented move in Chrome’s 11-year history, we are currently living in unprecedented times”.

In the while, Google wants users to know that its “primary objectives are to ensure they (Chrome and Chrome OS) continue to be stable, secure and work reliably for anyone who depends on them. We’ll continue to prioritize any updates related to security, which will be included in Chrome 80,” reads an official statement from the company.

Google was scheduled to release new updates and features last week. And it has not yet advised on when, if ever, Chrome users can expect to see Chrome 83.
