Samsung has already faced some tough critics despite only just launching the new Galaxy S20 series. The S20 Ultra was officially unveiled at the Unpacked event in San Francisco earlier this month.
The device sports a brand-new 108mp camera architecture that combines AI with Samsung’s largest image sensor yet for stunning image quality, as well as an impressive 100x zoom.
And while no one can deny that the advancements in smartphone camera systems are exciting, some early reviewers have picked up on a few flaws.
Publications like PC Mag and Input have both experienced an unreliable autofocus system which takes a long while to focus on a subject – if at all. While The Verge has experienced “overbearing skin smoothing”.
According to The Verge writer, Dieter Bohn, Samsung is “working on an update to improve the camera, though it doesn’t acknowledge any specific problem or confirm when the fixes will be available.
“The Galaxy S20 features a groundbreaking, advanced camera system,” says Samsung in a statement. “We are constantly working to optimize performance to deliver the best experience for consumers. As part of this ongoing effort, we are working on a future update to improve the camera experience.”
Bohn continues to say that the “Galaxy S20 Ultra’s camera system is one of its main selling points” – so without an adequate fix, there’s no telling how well this flagship device will do.
