Airtel Uganda has launched its live TV and Video on Demand (VOD) service called Airtel TV. Through the platform, the telco aims to avail both premium local and international content to its subscribers.
The platform is also aimed at developing and promoting local content and will be exclusively available to all Airtel customers for free – no subscription fees.
“The platform will deliver the very best of entertainment experience directly to all Airtel customers across the country. With our 4G network, subscribers will enjoy a seamless viewing experience without interruptions. We are confident that the platform will delight, entertain and inspire Airtel customers as it offers first-class entertainment,” said V.G Somasekhar, Airtel Uganda Managing Director.
Airtel TV offers a variety of entertainment content ranging from sports, music as well as VOD content. Additionally, local news will also be provided. Airtel Uganda’s MD encouraged local content creators to utilize the platform to make revenue.
To get started, one has to download the Airtel TV app from Google Play Store or App Store, enter their Airtel number then follow the guide to verify their account.
The service is seen as a direct competitor to MTN’s new partnership with YoTV Channels that offers custom bundles to be used on the streaming platform. This partnership was also aimed at promoting local content, just like Airtel TV.
